With Wrath of the Lich King Classic in full swing, many World of Warcraft players are encountering problems with the boats and zeppelins to Northrend due to overpopulation. World of Warcraft has implemented a fix to this issue by allowing the boat and zeppelin master NPCs to instantly teleport players to and from Northrend. As many expected, Wrath of the Lich King Classic has been exceptionally popular since its launch on September 26. The massive crowds gathering to head to Northrend has caused high server loads, triggering all sorts of issues with boats and zeppelins going to the new zone. Some players found themselves thrown from the vehicles, while others encountered other issues while zoning into the zones of Northrend. World of Warcraft’s solution to this is to provide a dialogue option to the NPCs who watch over the boats and zeppelins headed to Northrend. By selecting this option, players can instantly transport to their destination without having to wait for the vehicle to arrive. This not only prevents server bottlenecks while entering Northrend zones in Wrath of the Lich King Classic, but also avoids these and other unexpected glitches. This solution is almost certainly temporary. World of Warcraft Classic is all about preserving WoW's nostalgic spirit–and a contemporary feature like instant transportation goes against that design philosophy. Once Wrath of the Lich King Classic is out for a bit, and the hype dies back down to a manageable level, World of Warcraft will probably remove the teleportation option. However, some World of Warcraft Classic players love the added teleportation option. Despite the nostalgia of waiting for one’s boat or zeppelin to arrive, few things are as frustrating in World of Warcraft as missing one’s ride. Some players wouldn’t mind the teleport option to become permanent, though most appreciate it as a more temporary measure. Some players are annoyed that the issue happened at all. World of Warcraft has had months to prepare for Wrath of the Lich King Classic’s launch, and they believe Blizzard should have figured out how to make sure the boat and zeppelin glitch didn’t happen in the first place. That said, preparing World of Warcraft expansions for Classic is no small endeavor, and unexpected surprises happen. Veterans of the MMORPG genre know more than most that new releases are plagued with glitches, queues, and problems. Hopefully players can be patient until the boats and zeppelins of Classic Azeroth can return to their normal operating schedules without casting them into the ocean in the process. World of Warcraft and Wrath of the Lich King Classic are available on PC.
